against somebody who shows up with totally new proposals that says, oh, he loves teachers and last week he said obama wants to hire more teachers and i'm not for that. that suddenly he's for -- he's not for cutting taxes on the top earners in this country, on the wealthy, and, of course, his whole proposal is denying that he has a proposal that would cut taxes by $5 trillion. there's a name to that proposal. he printed it out. the analysis that was done was based on a romney proposal that now he says he doesn't know what obama is talking about. it's utterly amazing, hard to debate somebody who has totally different plans than he really has said in the past. >> does this mean the president has fulfilled his promise to get unemployment below 8% and this isn't a one-term proposition? >> you know, you can't deny the numbers. 7.8% is, in fact, lower than 8%, and that's kind of the benchmark that the republicans have laid out. i'm sure they are extremely disappointed that there are better job numbers in the united states of america because they have been trying to sabotage any efforts, every day

five weeks to go before the election, and there are certain things, mitt romney's tax plan, barack obama on social security, barack obama on simpson bowls and debt reduction, they don't want to put meat on the bone. people criticized the moderator. i'm not sure if the moderator pushed more for specifics if they decided i'm not going down this road, and they both clearly decided that on social security for obama, on tack plx plan for romney. i don't know how much cajoling will get them. barack obama being better today than he was last night, here's the problem. let's say there were 5,000 people at that rally. 50 plus million people we expect to have watched the debate last night. that's the issue. you need to be at your best when the audience is massive. you know, being good at a rally with your supporters is a lot easier than being good at a big, giant event where you're being directly confronted by the guy who wants your job. >> chris cillizza, ruth marcus and john harris, thank you all very much. >>> and how does mitt romney capitalize on his debate performance? going forward, se

term then president obama has to, remember last week, journal came back and followed me today, last week reported about potential treasury secretaries. jack lew at the top of the list i said. erskin bowles is number two. larry fink may be a third. i think if the republicans take senate and house, if you want to get anything done with the budget i don't think you bring in there a partisan democrat. someone like erskin bowles. that would be a good thing. so, listen, i'm just saying a lot of this is odds making. mitt romney has not lost yet. ashley: no. >> i can tell what you his big money people are doing. they're hedging or the trend is to begin to hedge. not yet in the numbers but people in the romney campaign i'm telling you, they're telling fox business network first-hand they're feeling it. they're worried. they're hoping for a good debate performance can either reverse that trend or maybe prevent him from taking the form of a mass exodus. ashley: charlie, a day is a long time in politics. >> you're absolutely right. a long way to go yet. ashley: three days --. tracy: wednesday n

. they liked the democratic show better and liked president obama's remarks better than mr. romney. over the previous week we had tremendous media coverage of romney's 47% figure. that is something that was in the news, got tremendous coverage at the time that quinnipiac was in the field and a lot of other polls were in the field. >> both sides will tell you they don't pay attention to the polls, but sure enough when one side is down, they'll be fast to poo-poo them. >>> we have a new nbc/"wall street journal" poll out tonight with fascinating insights ahead of tomorrow night's debates. >>> up next, i'll talk to philadelphia mayor michael nutter about the breaking news on p.a.'s voter i.d. law being blocked. >>> governor romney is a self-proclaimed red sox fan. why did he make an investment in the yankees? that was me... the day i learned i had to start insulin for my type 2 diabetes. me... thinking my only option was the vial and syringe dad used. and me... discovering once-daily levemir® flexpen. flexpen® is prefilled. doesn't need refrigeration for up to 42 days. no drawing from a v

. the romney campaign is trying to cut into the margins and what has been obama's strength, to bring that down ahead of the debate on wednesday which will focus on domestic policy which is interesting that romney is going after foreign policy this week. >>shepard: i found it interesting, as well, but based on what has happened the last couple of weeks, i guess governor romney and his team think we have an opportunity here, why not seize it? >>guest: absolutely. we saw the op-ed today from romney. that's a point of weakness for obama at this point. so the romney campaign will go after that. foreign policy will be a big issue with only a little over a month to go. >>shepard: thank you, great to see you. >> administration folks are trying to figure out how the deadly attacks in benghazi occurred. a suicide bombing in afghanistan pushes the american casualty count beyond a grim milestone. the latest from america's longest war is coming up on "studio b" next. want to try to crack it? yeah, that's the way to do it! now we need a little bit more... a little bit more vanilla? this is great!
